Zur Situation des Galerie-Archives

About the situation of the gallery archive

Internationale Anfragen an unser Haus

The pre-war period

During the bombing of Dresden on February 13, 1945, the KUNSTAUSSTELLUNG KÜHL in the heart of the Old Town and the house in the New Town, where the private rented apartment of the company founder Heinrich Kühl was located, were completely destroyed. In the course of the decades, the archive was able to grow again somewhat with the help of important references and transferred documents from customers and art historians. At this point, we would like to express our gratitude and express our further interest in materials.

The post-war period

The archive from the post-war period onwards consists of fragmentary documents. One of the reasons for this is that a private company such as KUNSTAUSSTELLUNG KÜHL is not obliged to keep records of accounting and miscellaneous documents beyond the period prescribed by the state.

International requests to our house

Tragically, the private gallery archive is hardly informative: concrete business histories and previous owners can very rarely be reconstructed. In addition, personal rights have to be respected.

The largest part of our archive was handed over to the Dresden City Archive in 2020. Work is currently underway on archiving and digitization to enable public access for research purposes.
